Seriously got sick of my prusa I3.. just to many things wrong with it, bad parts, bad design, forever spending time on it, buying new stuff, then it still not working. I got sh*t to do and don't have time to keep screwing around with it all the time. So I am "done" with it.

So after looking at reviews I purchased the one above. More than I wanted to spend, but I wanted a enclosed one and one which works "out of the box". It generally got good reviews and the prints seem really nice on it. So hopefully I can spend time on CAD than trying to get the thing to work.

At RJ's suggestion, I started with designspark https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/m ... l-software...

So far it seems like a easy to use "no fuss" package... So will stick with this for now...

I did have fusion 360, but when it loads it just quits now  I didn't really get on with that software anyway, but I think since I changing my gfx card and cpu, it might have "broke" the software somehow.. anyway.. its gone now...

Hopefully I can get back to constructive stuff that I need to get done now rather than endless screwing around with things :)

Yes, unfortunately that's the problem with 3d printers.

I have a Reality Ender 3 which is about £180 and is a metal framed Prusia. The metal frame had meant much more accurate printing and less fuss.

You'll still need to tweak your printer settings in Cura to get it exactly how you'd like as no two printers or media are the same but it does look like you'll have a good starter point this time.

:-)

I love tinkering with 3D printers. I originally had a Monoprice Select Mini but not sure if I can call it that. Here are my mods:

New Z-axis. Nema 17 with itegrated 8mm screw
Z-axis raised by 35mm
New bed assembly. Self-made parts. Build volume 200x140x155 from 120x120x120. Heated of course
X-axis carriage upgraded
Hotend upgraded to E3D V6 + Bullseye partcooler
X and Y axis belt and pulleys upgraded to GT2
New self-made bowden extruder.
Extruder motor positioned to the top of the tower to increase Z-height
Board swapped for MKS Gen L (major upgrade despite going from 32bit to 8bit). Original was pretty shit.
Touchscreen upgraded to MKS TFT32
Obviously new Stepper Drivers
Power Brick swapped for MeanWell PSU and mounted nestle on the side
Raspberry Pi mounted on side by vesa mount running OctoPrint
4-channel relay board to control power, lights, fans through Pi's GPIO pins and OctoPrint plugin
New spool-holder
15mm skirt around the bottom to give more space
X gantry support
8mm rods on the top attached to gantry support that have sliding mounts for Pi camera and light and bowden tube guide
40mm Noctua fan on extruder
4010 radial fan on Bullseye with capacitor mod to conver PWM to smoother DC.

Yeah, I might have missed something. But most importantly it prints awesome.

Yeah, if I had time and patience it be a good project to get going, but I am lacking in both :) I've had it like 5 years now and pretty much only managed to print a few cubes.. I need a tool which works, not a "hobby" to build and get working. It would cost to "fix" it, I just don't see its worth the time or expense.

I'd love one of them if I was clever enough to use it :p
Few more years might see some actual working widespread retail units for normal people, all attempts have been a bit crap so far

Sweet!

Got to reset my print head after flipping the heat bed the right way up (I was confused by the confusing instructions, at least that's my excuse).

Just need to walk through the setup again and set up the correct Z offset and I'm away again.

Though I do have printer envy, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't have a 3d printer at all if I'd asked for one of these for my birthday!!

This one wasn't too bad set up and adjust. Mostly the thing was full of packing foam.. Had to screw the printhead down and adjust the bed.. But that was pretty much it really..

The print quality so far looks absolutely amazing. I will take some images when finished, it is only at 60% so far. So probably another hour yet :(

The main downside to this printer is sheer noise of the rear fans. The actual mechanics seem really smooth and quiet. So I think I will have to slow down the fans a bit, or replace them. I know a couple of people on some reviews mentioned how loud the fans were and they swapped them out quieter ones.. So I need to look into this later...

The only other issue I have seen is there is a cable which is actually rubbing on the filament spool. So need some sort of flexible clip to clamp it to the side, or I may just wrap foam around it for now though it does not start cutting through the insulation.

Really looking forward to it finishing the first object :)
