Combined blitter mcu glue adaption

Post by Forgottenmyname » Thu Dec 20, 2018 6:23 pm

Hi all,

I just wondered if anyone has ever tried to adapt the combined blitter, my and glue for use on an STFM or Mega? These chips seem to still be available online and for a lot cheaper.

I wondered if it was possible to implement individual parts of the chip, ie the blitter, without worrying about the other bits.

Ani ideas?

I don't think anyone has tried it, there hasn't been any real need to even consider it until recently.

I guess if unused parts were tied high it might work. Though might need glue logic, as its connected to the databus, it might cause issues...

While the chips may be cheap, the amount of work involved in trying it out will raise costs a a fair bit anyway.

It might be something I can try if I can get an smt to jumpers type adaptor as most jumper leads and then adapt a blitter socket like you have the boosters?

Possible.. BUT, there isn't a library part for that chip which is the first problem.. The PLCC socket of the blitter has a lib, as I used it on the STF project. So creating a custom PCB is possible, but of course takes a lot of time to create a library part :(

If you can find out what the chip is actually called package wise, you could look out for a breakout board for that package which is already being sold.. but I am skeptical..

Ok fair enough. I'll add it to the list of things to do whilst the missus watches dancing on ice....
