Amiga accelerators available as of Q1/2019?

Post by IngoQ » Mon Feb 18, 2019 4:59 pm

Hiya,

I just did some research, and I just would like to confirm my findings by some of the Amiga guys around here:

Is it correct, that there is currently no one selling new (not vintage) turbo cards (prebuilt or as kit) for the Amiga 1200 with at least 68030?

I am under the impression, that TFs cards are not (yet?) for the Amiga 1200, there is no Vampire (yet?) for it and currently no ACA123x or better available, is that correct?

I'd be interested in a nice 68030 in my Amiga 1200 as an upgrade to my current ACA1222, but I am a little unwilling to pay that insane amounts of money on ebay for sometimes untested hardware with no warranty whatsoever...

Edu Arana has a prototype TF330 booting up with issues on the A1200. Other than that your only option is Individual Computers for an 030. There are a couple of TF328 ports to A1200.

I managed to get an MTEC 1230 Viper a few years back for a song on eBay, and run it with an 8MB Simm. Recently dropped an FPU in it too, I should probably benchmark it.

It's one of these: http://amiga.resource.cx/photos/t1230,2
Collector of old Atari things:
800XL + Ape Warp mod, 2x 1010 cassette, 1050 + Happy mod, 65XE (128k) & XC12, SIO2SD, 2600jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Atari 520ST (1Meg) + Gotek, 1040STFM + Vortex ATOnce + Gotek, 1040STF long button floppy, 4160 STE with Gotek and ROM switcher, 4160STE with 32Mhz booster, ROM switcher and CosmosEx, not to mention various bare ST boards for testing including a PAK 68/2 :)
Plus the rest..
Amiga stuff, Mac stuff, Sinclair stuff etc...

There's currently an MTEC 1230 on ebay for 200 EUR, A 1240 recently went at 400 EUR. But at this pricepoint I expect new and with warranty, not 30 years old and untested. I guess ebay is getting less interesting from day to day, even as a buyer.

Indeed, Amiga Accelerators on eBay are stupidly expensive and I agree, these price points should be for new, and not 30 year old technology. What they seem to reflect is rarity and the effect of market forces, and not reality.

AmigaKit used to sell new accelerators, but they seem to have been relegated to a simple image on the site with no hyperlink. :(

Interesting, a Vampire 1200 is "very close". I guess there will be a huge demand, and therefore long waiting lists. But if it around 300 EUR like the others, this would be very interesting...

More the the latter appearantly. And a bit of tradition, Amiga hardware has always been on the more expensive side, as I remember. But as long as people are paying these prices, why should anyone offer cheaper?

My personal favorite: https://www.ebay.de/itm/COMMODORE-AMIGA ... :rk:1:pf:0 . This guy tries selling his Draco for a couple of years now. Although he is getting soft, AFAIK he started somewhere at 15k.... :-P
