Commodore 64 PSU

Post by zack4mac » Fri Apr 19, 2019 4:10 pm

I know it's not a Commodore 64 forum but if you dont ask? I have quite a collection of old C64 psu's that I dont use and are in the way, I dont want to just throw them away but I dont want to offload them on someone on EvBay with the risk of damaging their machine. I have always been a bit cautious with these power supply's as they output AC + DC is there a recommended way of checking them, a pacman guide would be great! Do they need any load resisters or is that just for switching type power units? I have asked respectfully about this on Lemon64 but have yet to hear anything and I though maybe there might be a C64 user amongst us?

Best regards

If you have a schematic of it, may be able to advise better...
4MB STFM 1.44 FD- VELOCE+ 020 STE - 4MB STE 32MHz - STFM 16MHz - STM - MEGA ST - Falcon 030 CT60 - Atari 2600 - Atari 7800 - Gigafile - SD Floppy Emulator - PeST - HxC - CosmosEx - Ultrasatan - various clutter

Thanks Exxos,
I found this diagrams, I just want to make sure I do it correct! 5v DC 1.7A / 9v AC 1A 18VA. 18 is before the amp is split? I'm a little wary of AC although less chance of sticking! I will probably use an old female connector to ensure no arcs.
These were horrible things filled with resin! if I find any that are not giving the right power I will just hack the leads off! and take to the tip and I will more than likely remove the mains plugs even if they do show the correct voltage! and offer them at postage if anyone wants them for aesthetics to complete a system! ITs robably not worth it!
You cant go wrong with a Ray Carlsen except he is in USA still somethings are worth the wait! he does for the C64 what you do for the ST!

So 9V AC, that will probably hit 15V without a load.. So that will need a 10R 10W resistor to test.

5V DC, Need 5R 10W to test under load.

If they are all sealed, then a bummer to replace any caps etc.
