UBUNTU old repos ?

Post by exxos » Mon Feb 17, 2020 5:11 pm

I am trying to update this version 7.2 to 7.7...

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/+source/awstats

But the official repo only has up to 7.2.... Have been trying to find a repo I can add into my list but not having much luck, can anyone help ?

Based on this page : https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/awstats
Trusty (14.04 which in Ubuntu time is old) only has 7.2
If you want 7.6+ you'll need to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.06 at least (Bionic Beaver)... or compile it yourself from sources.
Working ones : MegaSTE (68020) / TT030 / Falcon with AB040 & Eclipse / 1040STF
Need testing : Falcon with CT2

Thats quite normal for debian/ubuntu distros. You won't find newer versions of packages in older releases, only backports of important fixes. For newer packages you have to upgrade to a newer release (which then of course will update almost all packages, not only the one you are looking for).

BTW trusty has exceeded its "lifetime", and is not supported anymore (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases)

I have considered updating but long story of pain involved

I actually have the LTS one anyway...

14.04 Trusty is already two LTS versions behind ;) Current LTS is 18.04 "Bionic Beaver", supported until 2023.

Yeah, but like I said before, some stuff on my server won't run on it.. and I really don't want to start screwing around with the OS when my whole domain runs on said server.. it would end up broken for ages and just annoy everyone.

Nope, wouldn't do that either.

But what I would do is start getting into containers, and thus finding a way to compartmentalize all my services and give them the environment that they want. Granted, a lot of work still.

AMN site needs its archiving finishing first. Thats the main issue as I just don't have time to do it. I know my floppyshop site has some depreciated function so that needs fixing, no idea if my store will run in php7.. it all needs trying out first on a new server, but until AMN gets archived, I don't want to take the site offline.

No promises, but I could try putting the AMN Site in a docker container, if you want. Need some practice with that anyway ;)

Possibly, but I don't think it will be simple, theres stuff in the SQL database, plus I had to do that many fixes and bodges on the site to get it to run at all on my server, I think you will spend the majority of the time trying to get it to run at all..The site is still churning out errors like there is no tomorrow.. But I don't think it ever work properly in the first place, the error logs were in the TB's range when I got hold of it. They are a order of magnitude less since all the fixes I did.

If anything you will probably just be better being run on a different server. I could set up another Web server relatively quickly and easily, but currently I don't really see the point in paying for two servers when it is all running on one anyway..But even so, I think time would be better spent just copying the contents was than trying to keep the site running. I may see if I can rope the girlfriend into sorting out the articles
