Dropping sales concerns

Post by exxos » Fri Jun 22, 2018 2:44 pm

Not really sure if I should be concerned about this yet, but there is been a almost 30% drop in sales over the past couple of months :( granted there are normally a couple of orders a week, they seem to have really dropped off over the past couple of months and I really don't know why.

Of course all the prototypes and parts I buy are all generated from sales from my store, so when sales stop it basically means I have no funds to continue :( the orders which have come lately generally been small orders of not much value and I do not seem to be getting many larger orders any more.

I know somethings have been out of stock in my store, but I have generally been working to get these stock levels up, which has actually cost me a small fortune. So doubly concerned that I have just literally spend thousands on a lot of stuff is just not appear to be selling.

I know a lot of you have been given me a shout out on various groups and advertising parts I sell in my store, so thanks for keep that up!

It may just be a bad couple of months, it happens, but of course I have to be really careful what I am spending otherwise I can quickly sink into debt with all this work

Hmm, when watching ebay for machines there is always the trend that retro computing seems to be a bad weather hobby. Sales and offers usually increase heavily starting in late autumn and calm down usually around spring.

I suppose you have the same "seasonal" fluctuations?

Yes and no... in January sales drop 50%.. its after xmas, so understandable, then it peeks around march which is best selling months (no idea why) , and remains pretty consistent until the end of the year. Though this year sales have done nothing but drop for the past couple of months. Its just got slower and slower until there is standstill basically now.

I know I have been diverted away from Atari projects at the weekends, since the good weather has meant I have had to do maintenance around the house.

I'm definitely more active in winter.

I do need to buy some more stuff too but am waiting for the new STE booster to be finished now that the not so broken STE has been revived.

For the Mega I'd not sure what I will need next, possibly a DMA as I think it went pop but then haven't had the time to get the scope out etc with being on holiday.

Then there's the sunny weather and family life......

At some point in time all surviving retro machines will have been upgraded. Just saying ;)

True. Its actually one reason why I was working more towards servicing of machines and keeping them running, rather than upgrades.. As obviously if there are no working machines, no one will be buying upgrades anyway.

There will of course become a point, where nobody will be bothered with these machines at all.. I just hope all my stock sells before that day! Of course if sales slowdown and stop for more than a few months.. It's pretty much marks the end of my involvement with just about everything :( if there are no people buying stuff, there's no point in developing stuff, and I don't have the money to develop the stuff anyway..

Of course I don't think anyone can predict the end of Atari retro machines.. And of course I do want to start investing huge sums of cash and time in stuff that will never get my money back on.
