Hi, I am PaulJ (yes I know...)
I live in the UK, just North of London and have owned my fair share of computers and consoles in the past, starting off with the original ZX Spectrum and ending now with the PS4 (handy for sky and netflix in the bedroom and the odd game of Gran Turismo.)

I have always been an Amiga fan, owning an original 500, a 600 and a 1200. My favourite was oddly the 600, I just loved it, probably because it truly felt like a big machine to me, as I installed a 170mb HD into it and upgraded the ram. The 1200 was obviously better though and I accelerated it and added a HDD and CDROM, but the 600 was always my favourite. I was always interested in Electronics and worked repairing EPOS systems back in the days when they were large purpose made systems rather than todays PC based systems we see today. This, coupled with my love for Amigas has pretty much turned me to my hobby, which is rescuing dead Amigas 500/600's and bringing them back to life and releasing them back into the wild, so my hobbyspace is usually littered with some dead Amigas that I try to get the time to fix (a couple of painful 500+ are the bane of my existence). I never really knew that there was a community here, but I am glad I found it as I could probably help a little and also learn a lot. I really do intend to learn more about how IC's work, as although I am comfortable looking at schematics in general, I regard IC's as I do the kitchen. I understand what goes on in there, but I have little idea how it happens. If anyone has any pointers on learning about IC's then I'd be grateful of the suggestions.

Anyhow, that's pretty much me, I hope I become a valued member.

What IC's are you referring to ? If your a beginner, then I would suggest looking into 74LSxxx series of logic chips and how they work. Pretty much the next step is a programmable version which we all use in PLD's.

I mean logic IC's in general, I've pretty much just not bothered looking into them, so I would need to start at the beginning.
Ideally working my way up to understanding and programming FPGA's would be the dream, but that's going to be a long walk.

I forgot to mention I did have an Atari 520STFM between a Commodore 64 and an Amiga A500. Thought it might be of note, so as to fit in a little more with the Atari guys
