Good Morning All!
I'm a fond user of early 80's retro hardware. I first started with the ZX81, moving onto the ZX Spectrum (48/128) and fondly remember playing "Formula 1" with my parents and other siblings. Nothing like playing "Turbo Esprit" around the streets of Romford.
I moved onto the Atari STFM whilst at college, with "Obliterator" as my favourite game until I got the "Stunt Car Racer" bug.
Not wanting to be left behind, I also opted for the Commodore Amiga (Don't hit me!!) and remember using that for everything else.
I currently own Atari STE 520, 2 x Atari 520STFM (With 1 quite Ill I'm afraid), 1 x Amiga 500, 2 x Amiga 500 +, 1 x Amiga 600HD and 1 x Amiga 1200 (with accelerator), 1 x Spectrum 48k (Rubber Keyboard), 1 x Spectrum +2A and various consoles.
I'm using the ST more and more (kids love it) (Bubble bobble and Interceptor anyone?), when I'm not flying in VR (DCS World), otherwise,
work takes up a lot of my time.
So that's me

Hi Exxos!,
I just love these machines. Yes everything is dated, but there is something special about them.
The poorly STFM?
Well its an extremely clean machine, no dust, pure case and keyboard.
But when I switched it on a couple of weeks ago, some smoke started coming out of the case.
Upon inspection, L51 lights up like the sun. Power light is on, no keyboard light, some interference on the screen.
But as its next to the power supply, I'm guessing the supply has had it. But I could be wrong.
Too much current going through the inductor? Or just a plain failed inductor.
I've been trying to find another L51 replacement (I'll need to confirm the motherboard revision), but I'd love to get this machine up and running.

oh, btw - I couldn't get on with Supercars. Lotus III and Jaguar XJ220 on the Amiga floats my boat

Could you take image of the inductor,?
The power supply is failing like mad with these machines in recent years.
Yes, there are of course a lot of games for these machines. While I mostly play PC games, albeit mostly 3, these are actually pretty old games. I do like the combat racing type of games, but a lot of the games now the graphics are so realistic it just seems like driving around town, which I do all day anyway, to driving around some other down on a racing game does not really appeal to me

Yep I'll post a photo later when at home.
With games I always recollect my dad' response to any new game.
I'd wanted to buy JET for the Atari ST when it came out. It was £50!
It was a lot of money for me, and I needed my dad to say it was ok.
He asked me to justify it in a sentence, so I blurted out "Its got great graphics and is a flight sim!"
I'd justified it, and then went and bought it.....but was a pile of Tosh lol!
From then on, whenever I'd mention a new game, he would always reply "Great Graphics?" with a great smirk on his face

Yes games were expensive, I think I paid something like £30 for Chuck Rock when it first came out, but it was a nice game

Hmmmmm.
Well it seems that issue with the L51 has gone away.
Disassembled the ST and went looking for the issue.
It's fine! Yay... I have 3 functioning Atari STs now, ...but I will probably buy a replacement power supply for it just in case.
It's a Mitsumi...
Are the ones you have all interchangeable?
Many thanks

Re: Riskyflier UK
The PSU in the current machine is a Mitsumi. I was just wondering if it matters what make/type goes back into the ST.
But regardless, just ordered a PSU and Video Recap kit...
Cheers!
