STF 6 CHIP ROM LOCATIONS

Post by exxos » Mon Feb 05, 2018 10:28 pm

Just a quick post to document the locations of the ROM's under the PSU.. I find it confusing what ROM goes where, so here's where they all go!

Some older machines have 6 chip TOS installed. Generally I would recommend using one of my TOS adapters and upgrading to TOS104. However on some machines it is not always possible.

As there are 2 basic versions of TOS location , here is a conversion. The left numbers are taken with TOS under the PSU. The last numbers are TOS located on the left of the motherboard. Also see images below.

U4 = HI 0 - U63
U7 = LO 0- U67
U3 = HI 1- U59
U6 = LO 1- U62
U2 = HI 2- U48
U5 = LO 2- U53

Can you confirm or deny if I'm preparing images from these ROM in the right way?

I'm using a MiniPro (TL866A) software, so it's using an Intel byte order (little endian):
1) load a "high" byte of tos.img into 1Mb buffer and save as tos_lo.bin,
2) load tos_lo.bin from address 0x000000 (to 0x007fff) into 256kb buffer and save as tos_lo_0.bin,
) load tos_lo.bin from address 0x008000 (to 0x00ffff) into 256kb buffer and save as tos_lo_1.bin,
4) load tos_lo.bin from address 0x010000 (to 0x017fff) into 256kb buffer and save as tos_lo_2.bin,
5) load a "low" byte of tos.img into 1Mb buffer and save as tos_hi.bin,
(...)
8) load tos_hi.bin from address 0x010000 (to 0x017fff) into 256kb buffer and save as tos_hi_2.bin.

As I've bough OTP EPROMs I'd like to do it right on the first time ;) I guess modding the "silly" revision (1040STF C070523-001 REV.D) board to 2-ROMs is not trivial.

I used an ST program by PPera to split the ROMs from 2 to 6 (in Hatari emulator) before I burned them with my TL866.

Ok, I've compared files which I've prepared using method above with Petari's ROMSplit and they are the same, so my description seems to be correct.
