Oh no, the CR-10 is pretty much shipped in two pieces, it's nothing like those prusa kits.
I think the only upgrade people do to them is to add auto bed levelling and that really isnt that hard to do. The days of having to mod a printer to get a decent print out of it are long gone.
The only real issue for printing cases would be the finish. I have pretty much nailed down the quality of mine and that still has a noticeable 'print' look to it.

They are pretty much as good as you'll see with a .4 nozzle at .2 layer height. You could drop to a .3 nozzle but you would always see the printing process, especially on the top layer. The only real way around this is to post process the case, which would mean adding a surface that would be susceptible to chipping/scratching. I wouldnt personally bother too much about the look of printed plastic, but I know it does put people off.
