Re: exxos blog - random goings on

Post by exxos »

So after last week's drama of not fixing the washing machine having to buy new one and make that fit in a gap which was too small and none of the pipes actually fitted anything else.. this week TV has gone nuts

I think one of the backlight LEDs was on its way out as it kept intermittently flickering on and off and getting lighter and darker. Originally I was looking at the power supply maybe the voltages dropping out causing the LEDs to drop out intermittently, could not be that simple could it

In the end I got my big power supply out, measured the LED strip was running on 61VDC.. So started without on my power supply and slowly turned up the voltage looking at the screen.. There when I got to 75V..well.. Well let's just say that now most of the LEDs on the screen then light up anymore

Next I needed to unravel this giant 3-D puzzle in order to get to the LED backlight...

Finally got to the strip, where all the LEDs seem to be welded onto a huge metal bracket  The spending hours trying to find something which will fit, basically gave up and found a recycle place on evilbay which had a used part.. Granted it may last months or years, but at least fitting it back in would be relatively straightforward.. Until I ordered it and they said the item was faulty and cancelled the order  Then I found another seller which has some in stock, at twice the price  , to the point it really begs to differ if it is worth repairing the thing at all.

The thing is with things like this, it is like scrapping a car because it has a flat tyre, I just do not like to chuck away otherwise working hardware...

So now waiting for the part to arrive so I can try and figure out how to put the whole thing back together again.. Hopefully without cracking the screen or breaking something else in the process..

Now to trying figure out how to put the pressure washer back together, who would have thought that the head assembly would have been full of oil on a induction motor

The drives don't need 12V anymore... The inverter is a optional add-on for pretty much any board..I am certain not forcing this is a change to anyone. And is looking into cheaper solutions for powering the board as my own power supplies are unlikely to keep selling because of the postage costs for ever increasing.
Oh ok, even older drives that can do all the ST formats? Do the new drives that don't need 12V handle the 80+ track formats?

The drives which need 12v tend to be single sided drives for starters. Drives haven't used 12v for a really long time. I've used the Sony MPF920 for 25+ years which does all extended formats and doesn't use 12v.

Sadly £38 :( The original seller accepted £20 for the strip.. but then later said it was faulty.. If it lasts a couple years and I think it would be worth it anyway.

At least you have saved the TV from going to landfill.

My "new" toy.. Second-hand, as I could not really justify the cost of a new one plus shipping and taxes etc..
