Oddly the left side of the bed on the first layer looks a little rough.. but the left side print doesn't...

The top of the case where I put the screw heads (in hindsight I should have had them on the bottom out of view d'oh!) But I intended some type of fancy RTC sticker to go on the top of the cartridge.. Answers on a postcard...

So things I have learned so far printing with ABS..

I cannot have the bed hotter than about 45c, or the head hotter than about 215c. reason is the layers are not cooling quick enough with higher temperatures.

Also in the mix of it all, the cooling fans in the rear of the case need to be running all the time to cool the layers down quicker while printing. Otherwise print seems to be prone to warping at the corners, which apparently is a common problem with ABS.

So all the above as be kept pretty cool in order for the thing to behave.

Secondly, the print I just did with 0.2mm to have warping of the sides slightly, where they do not seem perfectly at right angles. Also the holes which the screw heads countersink into have ended up being a lot smaller than they should have been. By design they are 6.2mm , the actual screw head is 6 mm, the final print ended up at 5.5mm  So now I have started printing top and bottom out again but with my original 0.12 mm settings as I seem to be having more problems now than I was yesterday.

I'm going to assume at this point that 0.2mm does not have enough accuracy for this particular project. Of course going from 0.2 mm to 0.12mm has added a extra hour onto print time :( I may try a part at 0.1mm just for the hell of it later..

EDIT:

I actually think having the heated bed may not even be needed.. I have printed with this turned off before without any issues, so having the bed heated may actually be contributing to some problems.

EDIT2:

OK the lower temps made it worse  So I have upped the bed to 60c (from 55, was 45 this past test) so see what happens now... I guess its possible the rear fans with more cooling might be making the problem worse...

I've not printed with ABS yet but you are supposed to have s hotter bed temp than with PLA for it to stick. Also it might be worth just checking bed levelling. I use the smallest shim I could find for when I do my manual bed levelling.

Does it print ok with PLA? Size wise?

I've not even tried PLA with the printer yet...

But its odd as the curling problem only just started, its been fine before. So I changed something for the worse it seems...

Though with my bed, sticking isn't a issue really, removing the bugger is another story

It could be the bed is not a consistent temperature across it, as before I was only printing in the centre, now I am printing both halves, they are further towards the edges.. So this could be one explanation...
