Yep, @sporniket - same as my oven. I did the firmware and tape mods - https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... 802#p20996

Not as drastic as @exxos' efforts.

Smell is definitely coming from inside. Pretty much as soon as you turn the heater on it starts stinking the place up.

looks like there is some white sealant around the top.

So its either that the odd heater strip causing the stink or the foil tape. I took some tape off and heated it up for did not seem to smell. The orange heater strip seems to be stuck on anyway. So really wonder if they just put the foil tape over it to stop the smell only it was not pushed down properly anyway

I think they royally fu*cked this design up.

Assuming they taped the thermal probe on the bottom of the tank, they have a massive fan right below it

@exxos put some lagging on it, then it won't be directly influenced by the fan.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Been giving it some editing..

So it was indeed the probe.. Not even any thermal compound or anything

IMG_0067.JPG

So I ripped it off and put it at the corner of the tank. Idea that with it being closer to the heater element, it will get better " feedback" as to what the temperature actually is. So I taped it on and blocked off one of the ventilation holes to reduce the airflow corner of the tank.

IMG_0068.JPG
IMG_0068.JPG (223.63 KiB) Viewed 1720 times

So the first test was that 22c. The thermal probe said 22.2..Close enough I thought.....

Next test went completely bonkers. This time moving to 35c. it was heating for a long time so I checked the probe again.. And it was almost 60c!! Feking stupid IR thermal probes!!

So increased to 38c and got my oldskool probe out. The heater was still on at this point and it had just ticked over to 39.8c.

It actually turned off at 40.3c. But I am not really concerned about the slide overshoot anyway. As it will probably lose a couple of degrees as the heater element has now turned off.

I left it running for a bit to enable the fan, and the temperature did not move during a 10 minute run.

There is still a smell to it but nowhere near as bad as before. My workshop doesn't have smog now!! As the IR probe was given me apparently too high of readings, I remember having troubles with this probe when trying to measure my hot end on my 3-D printer. I think it was measuring low all the time. So God knows what the temperature actually was originally when I measured 74c. I could not hold my finger in the water it was that hot, nevermind what temp the actual sides would have been. The maximum temperature quoted in the specification is 80c. But I don't think the thing should be trying to destroy itself at that temperature

Anyway, the display on the thing now tallies with what I am actually measuring on my thermal probe. At least moving the probe closer to the heater well help prevent it massively overshooting like it was doing before.

TL;DR.
exxos fu*cked around with it and seems better now.

Signed up with Odyssey and my YouTube content is currently transferring over. I just don't trust any company with my expertly done content, especially YouTube. I can pretty much guarantee before too long my channel will get banned for absolutely no reason. As with the trend with a lot of things which happen to me

At least someone has a bit of sense of humour over there

It's c'os they want the money from the advert sales. They don't care about you.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...

Here we go...

Just to be clear, THEY told me to take it to bits!

Love the little cute power supply in this thing, going to have to get me some of those!!

IMG_0084.JPG

So there is a little piston thing running on some tiny bearings which got gunked up with solder paste I assume . The thing was stuck down continuously and just would not move upwards. So cleaned it out with some cotton boards and IPA wipes and it is all fixed now :D

They sent me this document on how to remove it as well. Now this is what support from companies should be like! not some scripted monkey from India! (No offence to the Indians if we have any on here!)
