Re: Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
Annoying, I managed to cut a drive belt down to size today, but still getting problems with the Seltron FDD.
I'm just getting no results out of the Locksmith disk speed checker, and can't do anything useful with the drive. I did find it's possible to take up slack with the drive motor, it has adjustment holes, but both the new and old belts are still slipping and even adjusting the motor speed got me nowhere. Ho hum
I'll go fix something else whilst I think about it!!

@rubber_jonnie if it's slipping then maybe either one bearing is a little tight or the pulleys are too shiny?

Bearings are ok. They spin freely and I gave them a lube. May revisit though.
You may be right on the pulleys and if anything is slipping I suspect the motor end. I think I'll check that out tomorrow. At least I have the AppleDisk ][ and the FloppyEmu to play with

Re: Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
Rough the surface of the pulley up with some fine sandpaper?
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

It's on the cards I think.stephen_usher wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 6:05 pm Rough the surface of the pulley up with some fine sandpaper?
Been thinking about the whole thing since I posted earlier and I thin the plan is:
Disassemble the upper hub and clean/lubricate.
Disassemble the lower hub and re-lube (again, maybe I missed something)
Clean and rough up the pulley surfaces.
The hub pulley should be simple, it's large and easily removed, motor pulley, not so much.

Is there a real need to remove it then?

I wouldn't remove the motor pulley, just use a fine bit of wet and dry whilst it's connected to the Apple and pretend to read a disk, engaging the motor.
