Discontinued & out of stock items 2018 round up

Post by exxos »

Always a little sad to see the end of items, but sometimes it is just unavoidable. So I'm discontinuing the below items...

FPU OVERCLOCK PCB 50MHz

These have been out of stock for a really long time. They have never been huge sellers so there is no use in investing in them again. These are officially discontinued.

Atari Falcon 030 68882 FPU 40mhz
Been out of stock for a while.. The problem with these is if the clock pin as a bad contact particular with the above modification PCB, it tends to kill the FPU :( some don't work from new, and the fact some of them get killed during testing, and no longer testing these for 64Mhz speeds. I will only test if they are working or not from my store. In theory they should all overclock, but I am testing this any longer.

STF/E PSU.
https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0025
As mentioned while ago, all these power supplies came from my own stash of computers. Of course over the years the power supplies have slowly sold, and with the prices of machines always on the increase, it is not sustainable to buy the machines and rob them parts any longer.

As such I have no source these power supplies any more, and so I have none to upgrade the sale from my store. Also as I have done so many of these, I really don't want to keep doing these any longer anyway.

There maybe the odd one or two which may appear for sale in the future, but no guarantees. Basically these are considered a discontinued item now.

MC68060 REV 6 CPU
As mentioned before elsewhere, these are the last ones in stock I will not be stocking them again.

STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT

While these are officially discontinued now, I do hope point next year to do a similar board but assembled and not using a simm, but the smaller SMT DRAM which my 4 MB MMU KIT uses. Though this project is not high up on my to do list and of course the 4MB MMU KIT I have plenty in stock.

TOS104 6 CHIP TO 2 CHIP UNIVERSAL KIT

TOS_104.jpg
TOS_104.jpg (13.33 KiB) Viewed 4077 times
These are actually not really a good kit to make and test. As I started selling 6 CHIP TOS with all languages is far easier from my perspective than assembling and testing the universal kit. Also this kit was only available in English. Time and costs involved in this kit and its usefulness making not worth continuing with. So this kit now is this discontinued.

STE DUAL TOS 1.62/2.06 KIT (BLUE PCB)
https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0054
DUAL_STE_TOS.jpg
DUAL_STE_TOS.jpg (19.41 KiB) Viewed 4077 times
This particular kit will not be produced once stocks are exhausted. I currently sell a version ( HERE ) Where the ROMs can be purchased separately. Ultimately the "red edition" dualtos boards with UBE switch will become the standard kit for this. These kits will likely be assembled with integrated ROM (not swappable).

Obviously long-term there is no use in having 3 kits for basically the same thing. So ultimately the "BLUE" boards will only be available in kit form while stocks last. All future boards will be be sold assembled.

LONG BUTTON SINGLE SIDED 360K FLOPPY DRIVE
https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0078

ORIGINAL 720K FLOPPY DRIVE SHORT BUTTON
https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0055

Both original drives I am classing as discontinued. Basically the same problem as the original power supplies. Just about all my machines no longer have power supplies or floppy drives, so I simply have no more for sale and with the prices of buying machines now on the increase is not sustainable to obtain these any more. The problem with floppy drives as well, is that even when I do obtain a lot of machines, easily half the drives are no longer functional and not repairable. But with the costs of machines being high and hard to obtain, I just have no source for these any longer so I am classing them as discontinued.

Ultimately each of these items will be removed from the store list in due time. The stock code numbers will be re-used for future items.. So the links above will become invalid for those items in the future. Should I have any items like floppy drives or power supplies sale in the future, I will likely just list them in the for sale section here on the forum rather than keeping a item listed as out of stock in my store for endless months.

There's also a similar issue with the original custom Atari chips, DMA, GLUE,MMU, SHIFTER etc that these came from my stash of spare machines so supply is getting rather limited lately. The price will likely start going up on these chips as I have no source for these either any more. I will pretty much have to butcher working motherboards to obtain these chips.

The blitter chip I keep looking for a supplier, but these are pretty impossible to find these days. Places that do actually list the chips, do not actually sell them as there is no stock anywhere any more.

These kits...

STE DUAL TOS 1.62/2.06 KIT (BLUE/BLACK PCB)
https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0054

No longer include the ROM in the kit (sold separately) the price has been adjusted accordingly. All the kits which included the ROM's are no longer sold and numbers have been removed from the store.

The assembled version https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0139 has price reduction from £38 to £28. ROM is again sold separately.

Reason for the changes is I am trying to reduce the amount of ROM's sold in my store. The list of combinations is getting rather long and the ROM's are not exactly cheap either. So this will save me having to stock basically the same thing twice and reduce "clutter" from my store.

Similar to CTCM but this module is set via a simple 22 turn resistor pot. This can be adjusted from 60MHz to over 100MHz, I am classing as discontinued now. At the time of typing there are 12 in stock. I am not making any more of these as the later CT60's have the CTCM integrated.

Currently 2 in stock. I'm not going to make any more of these, as they just generally sell to slow to make it worthwhile building up batches.

The DualTOS boards for the MEGA ST will likely be discontinued when stocks run out. There just is not enough demand for these to warrant doing another run of them.

"Wire Glue" Is available until stocks run out. They're not really relating to Atari stuff and are for things more like solar panels or minor track repairs etc.

The board was used to correct the problematic clock lines in the Mega ST, Mainly for use with boosters. Though I am not officially supporting the Mega ST anymore (Not enough demand for one thing).

You watch give it a week and suddenly there be loads of people asking where they gone
I have the same sort of issue, I tend to only make stuff when its ordered, however this puts a delay on stuff and people kick off, be even harder for you that, your stuff is time consuming to make and test.

I got this idea from a documentary I seen on Dell in the 1980s

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-t ... ufacturing

Not easy if you got a job and a life luckily I have neither

I also saw a documentary on Toyota about increasing efficiency, I have so far failed at that bit

Yeah that is normally the case, nothing sells for years, and when it goes out of stock, everybody wants it... Then several months later I put it back in stock, as people keep pestering me, and nobody buys it.. not playing these games any more.

As said before, it's not something I can do like that, Looking Through piles of boxes to find everything For one particular kit/order, it just creates a lot of work for no reason. It's not just that, it's having to keep on top of the stock levels, hassling ordering stuff, pricing it all up, and the main issue is somewhere to actually store all this stuff.

I didn't want to get in the game of discontinuing items.. But if I want to bring out new products, something else really has to go off sale. There is no use in all the hassle of selling something which may only sell one or two a year. For example, the diagnostic cartridge would be more useful than the wire glue.. But we simply don't have the space to store both items. So tough calls have to be made at times unfortunately.. But at the end of the day, if things don't sell, there is no use in bothering with them.
