I've managed to get recent topics working.. I think a function to hide some forums posts is broken... I don't use it anyway, so just bodged it to skip the problem bits. I've dumped it onto the phbb forum to let people beta test it ;) then hopefully my changes will annoy the author enough to fix it properly

The updates got stalled because I want to have wildcard support to domains to save headaches later on. But the guy who does getssl, while he has been helpful, says he has started a new job and doesn't know when he will fix the issues.

As a result, Im stuck either waiting for him to update getssl, or look for alternatives. I think there is one called acme or something which apparently supports wildcard domains, but I couldn't make heads or tails of the thing . So if anyone knows any simple methods of installing let's encrypt certs with wildcard domains, please let me know..

I actually just did this yesterday, finally upgrading one of my own domains to wildcard cert with certbot. It is quite doable, but depends on your ability to programmatically set TXT records in your DNS (in my case, I run my own, so not a problem). Since I don't know anything about your DNS provider, I can't say how easy this is. If they permit DDNS updates via RFC 2136-compliant tools (nsupdate etc.), it's not difficult to do this.

However, as per previous conversation in this thread, there may be an issue if your distribution can't run snapd. FWIW, I'd never used snap before upgrading my own certbot yesterday, and it all went smoothly.

Does your server's distribution not support snap, or is it just a personal preference not to go that route? (I get it if that's the case, as I'm not really a fan of that style of distribution myself.) I'm afraid I can't offer any advice or experience with any other route, as I've always used certbot myself.

It's less if the OS supports snap, rather whether the snap developers want to support the particular OS. They are the gatekeepers.

As for my site, I've moved to acme.sh . It's a right pain to set up system-wide as it's designed to be per-user for some unknown reason. Whether it actually does renew the certificates is yet to be seen.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I've noticed the download links in the great download thread are not working in chrome anymore because the sub domain certs have expired.

As such, there will be some forum downtime at some point this week. I plan to download the SQL database and change all the download links to a download folder rather than a sub domain.. Then reupload. So I will have to take the forum offline durning the updates.

I don't think it will take more than like 10mins.. But probably end up taking a hour

Finally fixed the download links .. Though not done the mass replace of links in the database yet.

It is getting a bit problematical to copy this forum to the new server because if the amount of jumps needed across phpbb forum versions. The problem I have now is the new server is running the latest stuff, but I can't dump the forum database over directly as its not updated. Then the longer its left, the more jumps are needed, and as I found out earlier, its a pain to get everything updated and behaving again.

I think transferring over to the new server in stages is the best idea. Like do the forum first as its the biggest pain to do. I will keep practicing on transferring over as quick as possible to minimize downtime.

I'm not planning the switch anytime soon, but will give people plenty of notice. I would expect the switch will only take a hour, but because of DNS related delays , some may see the forum down for some hours.

The later phpbb software seems to have gone a bit into eye candy bloatware unfortunately. But I've worked hard to keep the forum looking the same as it does now.. But what the phpbb guys do is a bit beyond my control.

Anyway, if the forum goes down or I may have to disable the board to copy the database etc, then please just wait it out. I am trying to keep disruption to a minimum :)

I will likely move my website content to the new server soon as well. The exxoshost links should all still work, but they may redirect to the new host short term. My web store will be a pain because of the stripe stuff needs redoing, but moving the store will probably be next year anyway.

Still working on this in the background. Annoying as the version jump cause various things to end up broken. phpbb removed "googleplus" apparently, whatever that is, from the profile field some versions ago, only after the database update, the entries were still there, and phpbb was crashing because it was trying to use some extension which was not there any more

The good news is, I did manage to successfully do the first port and update from the forum to the new server last night, so things are getting there slowly.
