Yes, until you can get a diagcart running your just shotgunning and run the risk of doing more damage than good. The diagcart will make diagnosis easier and localize what needs to be fixed. Also if you can't get the diagcart output from the serial port and have a correctly configured null modem cable you can try the diagrom image which eliminates the 20 or so machine instructions it takes to get to the cartridge port. must say the mega 1 version 2.1 board is a much better quality board than this one
