(re-) glueing key decals

Post by pixelpusher »

Hi,

has anyone here tried to re-glue decals on a MSTE or TT keyboard or found a replacement for it? On one of my keyboards some of them seem to slowly peel away on their borders, so some kind of (mild) glue seems to necessary sooner or later...

Best,

You mean the actual lettering on the keys? I haven't seen that before, my MSTE keyboard is screen printed, I just had a look.

Yeah my TT keyboard lettering is slowly disappearing. Only little bits here and there. Makes me not want to type on it :(

I s'pose that you could remove them, gently clean with IPA and then spray them with polyurethane varnish to hold them down and protect them.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Weird. Not seen that before. You can't beat a double shot key for durability, but they are expensive. My MSTE kbd is still good thankfully, but I suspect the suggestion to clean and use varnish to protect what's left seems reasonable.

I believe you can get keycap stickers, but how good they are are is another question entirely. https://www.amazon.co.uk/English-Replac ... 814&sr=8-8
