"TT Touch" Reborn!

Post by DominoTree »

Just placed an order for a big lot of custom replacement domes for our ST/Falcon keyboards that should be similar to the "TT Touch" domes and significantly improve how our keyboards feel.

The "TT Touch" domes were a massive improvement and definitely worth doing, and I'm hoping these will be the same.

If they come out as expected, I should have them for sale on my web shop in about a month or so. Final price TBD but they should be pretty cheap.

I'm also exploring options for springs as well, the domes alone should be a huge improvement but a combination of the two might be even better

Are they a lot less resistive than the originals? The original ones are too hard to press, especially if you're used to more recent keyboards which are very light to the touch.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

They should be pretty light, but way more tactile with a "bump" you can feel as they actuate - the TT Touch were better about being tactile but they definitely took too much pressure to push down.

Upgrade key cups are BeST's flagship product! I have to say I really enjoy typing on the ST and Falcon with the upgraded key cups. I will definitely buy from you. :)

New keyboard domes showed up - they feel great and work fine but there's a couple mm less key travel than with Atari or "TT Touch" domes - trying to decide whether to stick with these or try producing another batch.

One of the changes I made here was to add a *much* larger contact pad than on the OEM domes so typing should be way more reliable as well.

Guess I'll load up a full keyboard and try typing on it for a few days and see what I think.

Went ahead and requested a revised sample of these with additional key travel just to get the ball rolling in case I do decide the current batch won't do.

Also, it looks like I'll be able to sell sets of 100 domes for only $5USD each - was really surprised they ended up being so inexpensive for custom-made parts
