What is BURS?

Post by sety »

Hi. :)

Every single ST I've disassembled has the letters BURS scribbled in blue permanent marker across the top of the modulator shield. Does anyone know what this means? The curiosity is really getting to me. :)

Cheers,
Stuart

Yeah, I think pretty much every one I've seen has that too.

Wonder if it's some sort of QA stage in the factory? Unless BURS is scribbled on it, it shall not pass.

But why BURS specifically? Is it an acronym? Is it workshop talk? What does it mean? It's driving me nuts.

The only people I can think to ask is Brad BeST and Steve Wiztronics as they've both been around long enough, but getting information out of those two is like pulling teeth. But I'd like to know before this info is lost forever. :/

You said modulator shield, did you mean that or Shifter cover? I've only ever seen it on the Shifter cover, which lead me to think that the "S" was Shifter?

Ok, thanks for confusing EVeRYONE now :dizzy:

I'm gonna have to check tonight, I have a few with the lids off.

If that's the case, maybe BURn in test 5?

:)

My STFM has UR5 on it.. maybe some identifying mark to modulator frequency or something ? I'm sure this has been talked about before some years ago...

Burn in, sprang to my mind, did they really have someone sit there and run them for a period of time?
Or just "picture came on done"
I guess it would depend at what point in the production line the modulator was added or was it added later? with someone just testing modulators on their own, on some kind of testing rig? that would make much more sense.

Just to add to the confusion, I found one of mine at the weekend that just said "UR5"
