27C400 EPROM emulators (beta) issue D technical discussion

Post by PaulJ_2.0 »

Oh mine came!
Found it likes 9600 Baud as I cant get it to program higher.
It might be due to my stupidly long cable though.

Next up, working out how to bank switch.

It is USB so baud rate option doesn't have any effect... however it does cause some terminal programs to change the size of their output buffer. What terminal are you using? Dump it and install SmarTTY! 27C400 image should program in ~5.5s

I am using SmarTTY and it refuses to program anything but garbage over 9600 baud so the baudrate does have some effect.
I do put it down to my 5m cable though, like I said.

OK it seems not to like USB3 then, as I plugged into a USB2 and it programs at 115200

My Dell laptop is USB3 and I've been using that both direct and through a USB 3 hub. I've not got a 5m cable the one I've mostly been using is 75cm

No matter, it works fine as it is.
I'm thinking of having a Raspberry Pi Zero W powered inside the case of A 500+ connected to it so I can squirt over various Kickroms without opening the case. It would be handy as I like to swap between 1.3 2.05 and 3.1.4 pretty regularly.
I could just run a script that asks which KS by number 1-3 and reboot.

Could you try a different cable with the USB3 port please? It'd be useful to know if if is the cable or something specific to your USB port/hub...

I will have to make one up tomorrow and have a check. I think maybe USB3 is a bit more delicate when it comes to degradation over distance than USB2. I have tried it on my laptop and main PC, both are ok on USB2 ports only.

Snip a USB cable and wire molex to:
Red = VCC
White = D-
Green = D+
Black = Ground

It's a standard everyone follows so if you snip a USB cable you will find those colours.
