Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project
Re: Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project
Aha, I actually just fixed another bug (typical, right after posting) and now ICD Pro detects the size OK and begins the format process. Finally I can tick that off the list. Next, I have to implement some of the 10-byte SCSI commands that ICD needs.

Nice work @Smonson Interesting project.

Interesting stuff, please keep posting:)
Re: Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project
Right - I've got it working enough to install the ICD boot loader, and start using it. It's pretty cool to have it running.
I had a couple of occurrences of a write error on sector 34 while copying files in the GEM desktop, but it didn't seem to corrupt the drive or the files... not sure what's so special about sector 34!
I'm refactoring a bunch of code to make all the error-handling more robust and spec-conformant.
I have a plan for how to make the next revision way faster without having to use more expensive chips (might even go cheaper). Needs more R&D first.

Re: Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project
I managed to get two footprints backwards in this new prototype! But fortunately, nothing that can't be overcome with a little creative thinking...

Lucky for me it wasn't one of the many-pinned packages
Re: Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project
That's too tidy for a bodge.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.
