Atari TT Boosters / Accelerators

Post by Icky » Sat Dec 30, 2017 12:43 pm

I have been looking around the web for an Atari TT booster but there only seem to be two locations I have found any references.

Firstly I think the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXBAxCoy-Ik I think from tuxie that has an Atari TT with an accelerator installed.

Secondly there has been a manufactured accelerator in the past called the Cattamaran by CyRel
  • I did manage to have a brief email exchange with the developer of the Cattamaran to ask if he was interested in sharing the accelerator information but I have not since had a reply.
There is also a reference to an FPU accelerator mod http://www.mr2.net/marknias/atari_tt030.html

It would be nice to get some sort of booster board of the likes the exxos produces for the TT

Hi,

we reengineered the CaTTamaran, but it is a piece of shit. It is not working very well. Because it switches between 32/48Mhz like the STE booster but, it makes a lot of failures and the connection between the CaTTamaran board and the ST Ram card is not very well.We reengineered the PALs from the TT Bus logic and put it into a CPLD. Now we want do multiply the CPU clock to x3 instead of x2 so 48mhz with stock clock of 16Mhz. It think we still need few monthes until it is ready, but its not a plug and play solution. There has been desoldered the 4 74LS74 and the 2 Pals

And yes my TT runs with 20/40Mhz + own TOS decoder so the TOS runs upto 200% + the more Clk + the more Speed with the Faster TT Ram Card
But see my Benchmark with GB6

For the FPU i soldered a 48Mhz OSC ontop of a other IC and connected the output with the second pin of the clock jumper.

There is also the option for "old" TT with the daughter board for the CPU to fully replace the board. This would be a full new design but could be faster and more stable. Of course this wouldn't work for "newer" TT where the CPU is on the main mother board.

Working ones : MegaSTE (68020) / TT030 / Falcon with AB040 & Eclipse / 1040STF
Need testing : Falcon with CT2

Yes thats trues but most TT users have the SMT CPU Version like me, so there its not easy todo it.

There is a possibility, you can use the TT-Ram Slot to but a CPu replacement board on it but there is the Control signals missing, maybe with a adapter board you could use the PAL sockets to grab the control signals. At the moment we are in contact to the Apollo CPU Core team, and when we can make a adapter so we put a Vampire Core into the TT. Because the 68060 is very expensive and hard to get when you want more then one or two. So FPGA CPU is the goal for us. But we want todo the CPU clock trippler first.

Attached a picture of my mess ^^

This is great news tuxie. Please keep us posted on your progress. I too have the SMT CPU so a solution for that is on my wish list.

If you have a circuit diagram / instructions for the FPU acceleration it would be appreciated.

Putting the Vampire in a TT is just in our Mind and we dont know if it is possible. Maybe for Daughterboard TTs its possible
