Bench DC Power Supply recommendations

Post by Icky »

Does anyone have any recommendations for a bench DC Power Supply. Does anyone in this forum use them in general and to help with the work on restoring / boosting the Ataris?

I use that all the time. I hacked mine to output 5amps short term.

I also have a much larger version.. Had it ages but never used it yet. Brought it direct from the manufacturer .

Not sure but probably this one..

Thought I got 50v 10amp version.. In any case no problems with my small one.

Forgot they did linear and switch modes.

I built one of these kits early on in my electronics journey, I use it pretty much every time I'm doing anything electronics-related. Pretty decent, but only 2A max. On the plus side: cheap!

Bench Power Supplies is most likely the one thing, that everybody with an electronic background builds himself at least once :)

Here is mine, which's first version was build during my electronics training 22 years ago. I upgraded it recently with new components, such as torrodial transformer, a 30V-3A linear power supply kit and a display to show current and voltage. I like the old school look about it ;) And back then I did all the metal work myself, including a (now obsolete) cooling block, hand filed from a steel block to a U-shape... my hands still hurt, when I think about that :-) My old teacher then said, when we're done with it, we will hate him, but know how to file... and he was right :-D

Thanks for all your suggestions including the home made PSUs.
I wish I had the time to build my own but I have so many projects on the go. it would be fun though :)

The wish list is growing.
