Flying Shark level corruption on both FlashFloppy and HxC

Post by sandord » Mon Sep 24, 2018 10:41 am

I'm experiencing Flying Shark level corruption on both FlashFloppy and HxC firmwares for my Gotek Floppy Emulator.

In Steem, there's no corruption at all. So I was wondering if this game could be sensitive to timings being different from a physical FDD. I suppose that Steem emulates the original timings quite right.

I haven't tried to run it from a physical FDD yet but I suspect that it's going to run fine that way.

Has anyone seen this type of problem before? Just curious...

Actually, Steem's floppy timing is not that good at all. Not even with Pasti always. Maybe you use Steem SSE ?
Can you post image you using ?
There is 2 kind of people: one thinking about moving to Mars after here becomes too bad, the others thinking about how to keep this planet habitable.

Yeah, I'm using Steem SSE.

I can't really post the image though, that would be illegal  :) But if you were to search the internet for say "Flying Shark (1988)(Firebird)[h][One Disk].st", you'd probably find it somewhere ;-)

Come on ... I want to check exactly the image you using. I have this game, so no need to search for.

I hope you're up for a challenge because this isn't quite the easiest game and the corruption starts at the middle of the second level (first shows at the aircraft carrier as shown in one of the screen shots).

I've just tried a different image and that one's just fine. Funny how this can make a difference, but not in Steem. Perhaps some cracker loader that's timing sensitive.

In STeEM SSE you can choose between "fast" and "accurate" FDD emulation, so you may try on your own if timings do matter. Also STeEM SSE has a higher priority for games to run right than to accurately emulate the hardware.

This image seems as not well made - for instance it asks to insert floppy B, while all is on 1 disk.

Try this: http://atari.8bitchip.info/ASTGA/F/flyings.php

Second DL - ST file.
