Here's a place for any mainboard images you have for reference. I'll kick it off with my C070789-001 REV .D

I'll reply with my own c070789- rev D, but from a french 1040 STF (TOS 1.02 fr when received, not yet upgraded).

Then i'll add my '91 STE, yep no RF modulators on french STEs. In this one the blitter is integrated, the floppy controller is an AJAX, and it has the so-called "good DMA" (see EXXOS's research about this myth).

Here is the CA4003290 I just received:

Unknown if it works, but worth a punt, as I have all of the other components standing by.

Floppy controller is WDC1772 (Ajax would have been nice), DMA is 001A.

That being said, I don't believe the bad DMA myth, I just believe the ST ranges were built to a low price with the cheapest support components, leading to varied DMA performance depending on which chip was fitted and what day it came out of the factory!! :foldarms:

EDIT: 06/01/2018. The board runs fine, and has now formed the basis of my second 4160STE. At some point it will be Gotek'd, get dual TOS and maybe will get an Ultrasatan. It does need some TLC though, as one of the SIMM sockets has damaged retainers, though it does seem to run fine without.

Interesting board, as odd RAM chips. This board did come with a SIMM adaptor that sits atop the MMU and has a shifter adaptor, but I've removed that for the purposes of the picture. You can see a jumper on there for the adaptor, I left this on so I know where it goes, and it isn't getting in the way.

I will attempt to get running with no other HW fitted before I try to use the Adaptor.

DMA is a -38 and FDC is a VL1772.

EDIT 06/01/2018. The board runs after removing the RAM add in and re-soldering the resistor that had been 'jumped' elsewhere.

Here is my 520STM mainboard C070243 REV E. Currently not housed as I have it as art on my office wall. It actually hangs vertically and the mounting holes are perfect for the wall attachments. The case, keyboard are all stored so it can be put back to its original state when necessary.

Nice to see pictures of the boards appearing on here, what's interesting, aside from even just the few iterations so far, is to see how the memory moves around :)

indeed the stfm is an interesting board.
As for the ste only the post 91 ones had an ajax from factory, yours is too old (89-90).
Looking back, not far, it's a really early 91 (sixth week) before the revision when the blitter was integrated in another ic.
Seems fair to me, I honestly hadn't looked that deeply into the revisions myself, so interesting info,
