For completeness sake, with NVDI 5.03. All 16Mhz Cache on.

The mono results show blitter and NVDI together do improve performance, but in colour it makes no effect. My regular STE is packed away for now so I can't see how that behaves in comparison.

Thanks, Really should have a benchmark of NVDI without cache enabled, then use that as a default test in GB6, then enable the caches to see what the actual speed up with NVDI with caches on actually is.

That's a good idea, unfortunately my ShiteDisk proceeded to throw a wobbler... Really getting tired of these unreliable SD card solutions but I can't find a small scsi hard disc anywhere for a reasonable price.

anyway we've still got most of the result numbers, 16Mhz cache off, blitter on

Looks like quite a big jump to me.

245% - 176% = 69% increase in speed with cache & NVDI.

I had contact with many UltraSatan users and 99% is very satisfied. Problems were with crap SD cards - bought online usually, and inproper PSU.

99% ultrasatan owners satisfied, okay but I don't have one of those. I have a satandisk with a "crap SD card", which I didn't know, because they don't write that on the box.

Okay, so, ranked averages:

Code: Select all

16Mhz, Colour, Cache off, Blitter on, TOS: 114%
16Mhz, Colour, Cache on, Blitter on, TOS: 147%
8Mhz, Colour, FAST ROM, Blitter on, NVDI: 156%
16Mhz, Colour, Cache off, Blitter on, NVDI: 176%
32Mhz, Colour, FAST ROM, blitter on, TOS: 203%
16Mhz, Colour, Cache on, Blitter off, NVDI: 245%
16Mhz, Colour, Cache on, Blitter on, NVDI: 245%
32Mhz, Colour, FAST ROM, Blitter on, NVDI: 256%
16Mhz, Mono, Cache on, Blitter off, NVDI: 257%
16Mhz, Mono, Cache on, Blitter on, NVDI: 269%
8/32Mhz are exxos' boosted STE results from this thread.

So 32Mhz with fast TOS access is a little quicker than 16Mhz with a cache. Alright well, for the sake of curiosity, how do we go about overclocking a MSTE?

:bravo:

I will see if I can hook up the 40MHz booster with NVDI and see how it fairs..

Rodolphe (who also moderator here) is working on a 020 & 030 booster for MSTE..

Machines I work with are STFM & STE.

Sensible for you to stick with the common ones, but a pity for those of us who went and bought the best... which is the worst for these kinds of thing. Not so sure I like the idea of 020s in a MSTE just sounds like a TT with worse graphics.

With 40Mhz you'll definitely have pushed it to the limit of a booster without cache.

Actually come think of it does anyone have gembench scores from a TT or Falc? so we know where we are in the grander scheme.

Falcon results were in GB6, but I dont think anyones posted a benchmark of it yet... I have a few mins so will try and connect my falcon up see if I can do it... I guess in comparison to what though a ST or STE ? Guess could do both, but as it has blitter, STE might be better..

Out of curiosity I benchmarked Magic and NVDI on the MSTE

I'd read on atari-forum that it was faster than pure TOS. After a result like this I uninstalled it immediately. On holiday now so the last post I'll be making for a while I think.
