Atari XE keyboard - replacement mylars

Post by rubber_jonnie »

Since I just went through the process of replacing the mylar in my 65XE, I thought it worth putting a small post in here to help other folks in finding the correct mylar.

The 65 XE has 2 keyboard types that I am aware of:
  1. Spring type - single sided mylar
  2. Rubber Dome type - double sided/folded mylar
It should be noted that the two types are not interchangeable so be aware of this when ordering a replacement.

The spring type keyboard mylar replacements are available here: https://retrolemon.co.uk/atari-8bit-upg ... brane.html

The rubber dome type mylar replacements are available here: https://thebrewingacademy.com/products/ ... 8973736036

I was unable to find any UK sellers for the rubber dome type mylar, however my order from The Brewing Academy did only take about 2.5-3 weeks to arrive from the US, so it's not a long wait by any means.

Before you order either type, you should disassemble the keyboard and remove your old mylar to confirm the type you have, because these items are not cheap and ordering the wrong one can be an expensive mistake.

On disassembly, the type you have will be immediately obvious, as you will either see springs or rubber domes!!

Hope somebody finds this helpful.
