Another more verbose update...

Figured out the Joystick issue. The joystick port is mirrored despite using a DB9 component from farnell.

Grrr thats annoying i thought the numbers would be standard.

little bit of work this evening on the MSX2 support....

Using a hacked out version of fmsx i determined that while you dont need the RTC clock to be working you do need the CMOS to be present (at least as volatile RAM) or the machine will not boot.

Looking good. Always nice to see a development detail video.

You mentioned about a potential case for it, as well as the possible addition of a headphone jack. If another hardware revision is in the pipeline then adding some strategic M3/M4 mount holes near the RHS corners and maybe behind those DB9s if possible might aid the case creation.

I can't see any mount holes on the current prototype unless they're hidden from view on the video?

What's the plan - are you going to emulate the RTC/CMOS using the Arm?

Unsure. Just want to see an MSX2 Bios booting TBH. I mean nobody cares about RTC do they?

No nobody will care about the RTC function.
Only the msx2 standard will care about the missing 52 nibbles of storage!
You could always patch the bios to bypass it...

Well its booting MSX Basic 2.1 now and has 512K of RAM available.

All thats keeping it from being an MSX2+ at this point is the soft reset.

I can also play games with SCC and MSX2 games.

I'm certainly interested in building up one of these once it's at the right stage :) always been interested in these obscure Japanese computers! From what I gather the MSX2 standard had all the nice things like hardware scrolling and such?
