exxos 534 blog - Atari

Post by exxos »

PhilC kindly sent me one of them.. see blow his blog..

I had to mash it on top of my IDE interface as I needed to add 206 decoding onto it.

I had to run GB6 from cartridge as I could not get the floppy drive working ( I just kept getting 2 bombs on floppy access)

But in any case here are the current results versus a stock machine. So I think we need some firmware tweaks :)

Yep, that's about what I got GBench wise.

I used the IDE too, which has now conveniently stopped working

Tiny update of sorts.. I have been having issues downloading the ISE, but its finally downloading..

I'm a windoze guy at home though... If anyone can point to to a dummies guide to getting started to compile the 534 code to program the card, please let me know...

It is on my to do list to fiddle with TF's source to get it running as fast as possible on the ST.. Work will likely be ongoing for some time with so many projects all happening at once, but will get there eventually :)

So the current 534 was designed to get its performance from running code/rom in fast ram. TOS seems to be less good (doesn’t?) at allocating fast ram by default unless you ask for a block of chip ram specifically. Hence the performance is poor.

The reason for getting the timing exactly stock (or slower) is because many fastram cards have no DTACK wired up so the rely on the CPU latching the data in S7 and they don’t have the data ready until then

EDIT: If that’s a revc then you have all the address pins available to decode ROM..

Start the “impact” program. 64 bit version id you have a 64 bit machine. Just like Quartus the programmer is a separate program (its integrated but describing how to get to it is more difficult)

ah, the problem is I I need to create a new project relevant to the 534.. which has the IC's you used, pinmaps etc, someone must have used windows version and already set all this up at some point surely ?
