Just a little update on usage.
My cooling contraption is working very well. I've been watching lots of 060 demos in the evening. I am now up to 75 MHz and the chips are cool.
I guess some demos might not be pushing the system hard, but i think it's a good representation of normal use. I suppose I should play Quake for 30mins and check the chips then for a real hard stress test.
Very pleased here

Re: TF1260 stuff
Hi.
We all like numbers, 0-60, top speed, MIPS.
What does RAM speed actually do for the 'day to day'?
Now running SysSpeed, TF1260 RAM is lower than Apollo and Blizzard in many cases. But I have been watching loads of 060 demos which I would think push the entire system hard, and I'm really happy. They look and run good.
Now some demos I have noticed have some crunchy sound or it is slightly out of sync. But as many 060 demos don't use native generated sound but MP3 etc I have put that down to the low bitrate sound they are using, plus it has not bothered me enough to compare with YouTube recordings.
The 'Starstruck' demo by The Black Lotus has a few quick glitches on the TF360 which seem gone on the TF1260, so I wondered if that could be RAM speed or just the TF1260 has more mature CPLD coding?
Sorry for the questions, but it shows my cards are getting a good lot of use. No shelve queen's here
(although the 3DO I got just before the TF1260 is now gathering dust!)

Re: TF1260 stuff
The TF1260 and 360 firmwares are identical except for the gayle mapping and a tiny bit of mediator support.

Re: TF1260 stuff
20x20x6mm heatsinks have arrived for the cplds so it’s time to try longer testing at 80mhz.
@Higgy ram speed is important for games that throw a lot of texture data around. On an 060 Amiga that’s stuff like Doom and Quake. There’s a significant difference in quake FPS between a 66mhz Blizzard 1260 and a CSmk2 for instance as the Blizzard has much faster memory. It’s also one of the reasons why Doom is not really any faster on an A3640-equipped A4000 compared to say a blizzard 1230 50mhz - the mobo ram speed is just too much of a bottleneck and the double mips on the 040 stop making a difference

Re: TF1260 stuff
RAM speed on the release version of the TF1260 isnt maxe'd its about 30% of what is possible. expect updates later in the year.

Thanks for info guys.
I got the game 'Genetic Species' installed. Takes up a lot of space but a very visually impressive Doom clone.
