Hi there, I was wondering if you had a link to the Softfloat quake please? I have tried with FEMU but just get a hang.alenppc wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 5:03 pmToday I actually tried the softfloat quake on LC060 at 80 Mhz... it actually does 3-4 fps, very impressive for what it istrixster wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 4:58 pm Thought i'd benchmark the TF1260 against the Blizzard 1260 using NovaCoder's AmiQuake.
320x200 NTSC, 2x hud showing, timedemo demo1, nosound.
Blizzard 1260 80Mhz = 16.3fps
TF1260 79.16Mhz = 15.7fps
It's pretty close! I'm wondering if the Blizzard's faster chip mem speed is the difference here given the TF has significantly faster fast ram access. Maybe quake needs chip speed just as much if not more than fast ram speed to get the high fps? Will be very keen to try again if there's another fw revision
in the "bang-for-the-buck" shoot out it's a clear win for the TF1260, that's for sure

Re: TF1260 stuff
I really wish someone would compile/port "pocket quake" to the Amiga.. Its all integer based and no float required.
If someone had AmiQuake compiling then it would be a trivial exercise to do this.

NovaCoder on eab would be the guy to ask! I’ll send him an email

That's not scalping, it's regular price, correct me if I'm wrong..
300€ isn't really much, because he'll need to pay eBay & PayPal fees..

It won’t finish at 300, it’s an auction. The buy it now for 450 is definitely profiteering

Yeah, maybe you're right, since he's selling without any CPU..

Re: TF1260 stuff
The results are similar to Pentium Overdrive 83 Mhz (16.5 fps, 'timedemo demo3, 320x200 res) or Pentium 60 Mhz (15.90 fps, 'timedemo demo3) or Pentium 66 Mhz.trixster wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 4:58 pm Thought i'd benchmark the TF1260 against the Blizzard 1260 using NovaCoder's AmiQuake.

My expectation for Amiga 1200 with TF1260 is about classic Pentium from 50 Mhz to 83 Mhz (via Pentium Overdrive) and 128 MB RAM. My TF1260's 68060 Rev 1 can reach 62.5 Mhz. I can run Netscape 4 (via MacOS 8.0), play MP3s and SoftSyn Midi (via GMPlay) like on my old classic Pentium 150 PC.
680LC60 with about 4 fps result is similar to 486 DX2 50 Mhz. My TF1260 originally includes 680LC60 Rev 5, hence I have a spare 68LC060 CPU.
Re: TF1260 stuff
Yes, the pentium is a bit stronger in quake as I believe it has a faster (more efficient?) floating point unit than the 060. Obviously many other things are different - ram speeds between an Amiga and pc, vga graphics card vs using chip ram etc, pc having generally faster hd access etc etc
