I have, plus the IDE image provided with Peter Putnik's Hard disk driver. Its not for lack of trying. I'm on furlough right because of the virus and have plenty of free time. When TOS is booting is will attempt to boot from the IDE compact flash adapter. The activity LED will come on and stay on. It will not boot the drives until the floppy loads the HDD driver. This is the same for HD Driver and PP's driver. Its like it is waiting for the INT or ACK to occur that never happens. Emutos has always booted correctly, with the exception that it does not boot the HD driver .SYS file. I'm sure that is because it has its own HD driver built in, and is normal behavior for it.

As one of those thoroughly confused by these byte swap shenanigans, could the difference be between an image that is completely swapped (including MBR) and an image that is swapped and then the driver is written natively (or un-swapped MBR, but swapped image) ?

I have had nonsensical results myself with swapped, un-swapped and PP driver hex edited images. PPutniks drive image software further confuses my results as it has a "swap L/H" option when writing to media that has made some non working images work for me.

I can probably make myself a twisted cable if anyone knows which bits to swap? (In between fixing my floppy)
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

It took 10 minutes to modify a cable, easy deal

But this shouldn't be needed if you're using a PC format image, right? The TF is already "twisted", so twisting it should only help with TOS images. Screw TOS images :)

With Emutos i does not matter, twisted or not twisted cable, or format to that matter. But it has its limitations, but is in constant development, I prefer TOS 2.06 for compatibility reasons.

PP's Hard disk driver is incompatible with the TF536 and TOS 2.06.I can partition but reads and writes are all corrupted. I have tried on multiple machines with the same result. I think its time to set the TF536 to the side for a while and get onto repairing my Falcon. I don't have any hair left to pull out. Hoping these issues can be worked, since it is a nicely designed booster.
