128MB on the TF536

Post by PaulJ_2.0 »

Is the 128MB RAM option just a case of installing the ram and the card should auto-config?
I have installed 2x AS4C32M16SB-6TIN in and only 64MB is showing.
Should I be checking my soldering or is there another firmware needed?

No it will need a firmware tweak. Not had time to get around to it.

It's for personal use so no need to rush, thanks for the quick reply, saves me pulling my hair out.

@PaulJ_2.0 I ordered some of those chips as well (AS4C32M16SB-6TIN) just experimenting, 64mb is heaps, just thought I would have a fiddle, not a problem if never eventuates, might use it as a programming exercise if @terriblefire opens up the code further down the track :)

Yeah they are fairly expensive chips too, I think they came in around £30 for the pair, so it would be nice to get it up and running at full tilt :)

Stephen has about 100 things going on at once, but I'm sure he will get around to it soon enough and like I said there's no rush it's just for my personal rig.

I finally pulled my finger out and built two TF536s today, been on my to do list for the last 6 weeks

I used the BOM's MICRON MT48LC16M16A2P-6A in the first build, works no problems :D

Tried the AS4C32M16SB-6TIN chips in the second build.
Shows up 64MB in DiagROM and the memory tests are fine in DiagROM.
But no go with KS3.1, it will boot and present the red expansion card fail screen, press continue and it boots into workbench but no FastRAM available.
@PaulJ_2.0 did you test your build with a kickstart or did you just use DiagROM :?:

I conduct continuity tests on each chip for shorts and continuity as I build (yes a little tedious, but it only takes a few extra minutes for each chip) so I am reasonable confident that all the joints are good. Also checked under a microscope at the very end as a secondary inspection.
Tried the card with the 2nd Aug and 22nd Apr versions of firmware, same result.

No biggy just experimenting, was just wondering if you had it working under a KS or just tried it on DiagROM
Have ordered 2 more MT48LC16M16A2P-6A chips, will sweat the AS4C32M16SB-6TIN's off and replace.

:thanksyellow: @terriblefire great card, love seeing that FastRAM large number at the top of my A500 screen :D

The autoconfig on TF536 will only do 64Mb at the moment. Dont waste time thinking its anything else.

Thanks, no problem will roll it back to MT48LC16M16A2P-6As, 64MB is heaps, was just mucking about with the 32M16s :)

No harm in leaving them on for now.

The fastram on the TF536 was not working at all in workbench when I had the 32M16s installed.
Sweated them off and replaced with MT48LC16M16A2P-6As.
Now both cards are up and running :).
