Turrican II intro music

Post by FluffyRedLobster »

Evening all,

Has anyone tried Turrican II on their TF536? I tried it this evening and get an odd slowdown and music stutter during the intro when your guy is running about, jumping up and down firing his gun - as you do. The music menu is also weirdly slow (space bar during the intro / menu). Happens with whdload slaves (tried all the usual tooltypes) and also with a couple of floppies I acquired. Can't vouch for their quality to be fair. Don't seem to get it if I plug in my 534 though.

Not a big deal as it only seems to affect the intro and menu music, just curious if anyone else hears the same thing or if it's just my setup.

Cheers,
Chris

I've just tested this and can confirm that the tempo of the music in Turrican II fluctuates in a strange way, a bit like someone hand cranking a music box.

Either too slow then too fast, or perhaps too slow then correct for a while.

I also tried Kings Quest IV as mentioned in the linked Amibay post, I sounds a bit off, but I don't have anything else set up to compare it to at the moment.

I can confirm the TurricanII speed fluctuations.

But is this a problem with the 536 or just because of an 030 CPU with this game?
Can someone test it with a 534, or any other 030 system?

The TurricanII fluctuations don't seem to happen on my TF530.

Thanks guys for giving it a try.

That post on Amibay is weird timing!

Sticking to Turrican for a minute, there might be something going on with whdload slave, just to complicate things... http://mantis.whdload.de/view.php?id=2993 / http://mantis.whdload.de/view.php?id=1382

I'll give it a proper test tonight on my 534. I did this quickly last night and it seemed okay on the 534 but I'll do it properly and put a comparison up.

Compare it with a TF330... that does the same clock speed switch.

Intro music and space bar music menu sound OK on the 330, using the same image and RC50C CPU.

WHDLoad 18.2.5735
Turrican 2
V1.8
15.7.2009

On the 536 the main title screen intro tune sounds correct for the first few bars then slows down just before the piano? kicks in and fluctuates from then on. On the space bar music selection screen it sounds slow from the start and doesn't seem to vary much all the way through.

18.2 is pretty old WHDLoad release,
Please use 18.5 (official release) or 18.6
