TF536 with RGBtoHDMI

Post by FluffyRedLobster »

Hi all,

Thought I'd report success with c0pperdragon's Denise adapter and hoglet67's RGBtoHDMI mod in combination with the TF536 on a CPU relocator :D

I lifted the relocator and the TF using a set of machine pin headers on each, and gently angled the pin headers on the denise adapter so the Pi Zero's mini HDMI output can be routed under the CPU relocator. Worked first time (for a change)

If anyone is after a simple HDMI output for their 500 (and isn't interested in the ECS video modes) this is a no brainer... the picture quality is astonishingly sharp and it just works...

Now I just need to figure out how to get the HDMI cable out of the case without resorting to the dremel

Nice! Looking at that pic it, so you think it would also work soldering the pins on the pi directly to the denise adaptor? Either above or below?

With the TF536 sitting so high, can the keyboard be fitted and case shut on the A500?

I bought my adapter from fleabay - it is a v1 and came with male headers. I ended up not using any headers on the Pi and just soldered it to the adapter’s headers to get a bit more clearance so yeah that definitely works.

The idea of putting the headers on the underside of the adapter is a really good one! There are some passive components in the area on the main board - I’m not 100% sure the headers and Pi would clear them but I think it might... I’ll have a look and let you know. The angled board is about the neatest solution I’ve seen so far but my OCD twitches every time I see it. Flat would be better. :D

Yup. After “must work” that was my second requirement. :D

I had to split the pin headers lifting the relocator and 536 (so both are lifted equally by one ‘layer’ rather than lifting the relocator with two strips) otherwise the keyboard was too close to the relocator for comfort.

The top of the cpu is within a few mm of the case but it doesn’t foul - and the cpu runs cool on the 536 so I’m not concerned there.

I took a look - I don't think the the Pi would clear the passives on the main board (there's a logic chip too) if mounted on the underside of the denise adapter. I think the edge of the Pi may foul on the denise socket / pins too, it's really tight in there. Worth a try lining it all up if you're building an adapter from scratch but I'm confident enough that it won't fit that I'm not going to desolder my header and try it :)

Really good idea though, if it did fit that would be the option to go for.

I soldered the pi directly to the board and raised the CPU socket.

Nice, I couldn’t quite get the clearance between the keyboard and relocator this way but that looks like a really neat install :)

Ah yeah the keyboard touches the bottom pins, I just covered them with tape. It touches but the case closes :)
You could probably split the raises between the card and the relocator.
