I was going to start designing a PCB to do this, and then I found that someone was already working on it
Anything I can do to help? I'm decent in EAGLE/KiCad (and I can fight my way through Fusion 360 as needed )
STFM Keyboard Remake
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
@DominoTree - so many projects on the go this one is a very slow burner. I'll PM you to discuss.
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
Well whilst I have been ploughing through prototyping the STFM Case Remake I also started on the plastic cherry key plate to place around the PCB and hold the keys in place. This is currently just a simple plate to make sure the keys are all in the right position ie. they fit in a case properly so I can adjust and make sure when we finally get to making a PCB it will be somewhere in the right ball park for placement. In just doing this exercise I noticed around 8 keys slightly out of place.
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
Lets see if these keys are in the right place. Printing the cherry key plate.
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
Glad I printed the cherry key plate. First one I forgot about ABS shrinkage and it was out by 2mm. Second one after scaling for the shrinkage I was able to see what needs moving and adding on the remake PCB.
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
Did the project stop? I would love to get a new modern keyboard in my new to me STE!
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
FYI this project has been getting significant attention on Facebook lately.
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
Thanks @Steve, I have finally got my Atari HW mojo and a little time from the house projects back. In as such when you posted this I was working on getting this board finished. I am just doing the final touches but will soon be hitting the button on getting a few dev boards for try out. I thought the boards would end up costing a bit due to the size but its not a bad price at £30 for 5x unpopulated from JLC.
Re: STFM Keyboard Remake
@Icky Perhaps one of the coolest Atari projects. I assume it's a half-DIY based thing where you use the top-section ABS plastic of your pre-existing keyboard? So the user basically just can order a PCB & some cherry keys. How about the key-caps though. Sorry if this is already in the thread
