It depends on the drive and the case. Some cases and drive combinations have feet that are 10mm

@derkom here is an example of case / board (very dusty) with small feet and flat XTAL. This is the problem with the revisions, no consistency

Paint some clear nail polish over it? That should be able to withstand the transcient heat.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Aha, I guess I've just never run into a short foot case. I thought all ST floppy feet were the same size.
Re: Icky's H4 Mongrel edition build x 2
The older STF drives (more long button era) , were taller than the newer drives we know today. Even the belt driven ones were even larger. So I think there is actually 3 different heights.

Re: Icky's H4 Mongrel edition build x 2
Found another patch.
I had soldered in the BAD DMA (if it was anywhere it was going to be around the BAD DMA) then I noticed a resistor was missing underneath it. The socket bar was right over the top.
Careful snipping of the plastic bar and I was able to lay the R903 (33R) flat. I say careful as you dont want to scrape any tracks under the bar.

@Icky Would it be tidier to use an 33R 0805 SMD resistor underneath the board?

That might be a good idea or even fitting the resistor underneath anyway.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.
Re: Icky's H4 Mongrel edition build x 2
@kodak80 @PhilC either options are good
I did think of putting it underneath but I just went for the hack-tactic approach as I had the resistor sat right in front of me at the time. I think the next board will be an 0805
