It depends on the drive and the case. Some cases and drive combinations have feet that are 10mm

@derkom here is an example of case / board (very dusty) with small feet and flat XTAL. This is the problem with the revisions, no consistency :)

Paint some clear nail polish over it? That should be able to withstand the transcient heat.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Aha, I guess I've just never run into a short foot case. I thought all ST floppy feet were the same size.

The older STF drives (more long button era) , were taller than the newer drives we know today. Even the belt driven ones were even larger. So I think there is actually 3 different heights.

Found another patch.

I had soldered in the BAD DMA (if it was anywhere it was going to be around the BAD DMA) then I noticed a resistor was missing underneath it. The socket bar was right over the top.

Careful snipping of the plastic bar and I was able to lay the R903 (33R) flat. I say careful as you dont want to scrape any tracks under the bar.

@Icky Would it be tidier to use an 33R 0805 SMD resistor underneath the board?

That might be a good idea or even fitting the resistor underneath anyway.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

@kodak80 @PhilC either options are good :)

I did think of putting it underneath but I just went for the hack-tactic approach as I had the resistor sat right in front of me at the time. I think the next board will be an 0805 :)

Excellent idea Kodak. :D As I recall you used this method on the H1. I will be using it on my boards if they ever show up. :(
