"I am doing what he does, only slower"
So my first step is obtaining a 1040ST as part source. I was lucky and found a hopefully bargain at ebay, 20 Bucks for a VERY dirty one:
BUT the case looks intact, so at least this will give me a good case and some parts, after a lot of cleaning and probably retrobrighting... So lets see how that goes

Wow, so much dirt on that one, it probably increased the postage!
Re: IngoQs attempt at messing up the H4
Yep, will definitely not touch that thing without gloves

Re: IngoQs attempt at messing up the H4
Arrived today. And yes, it is really dirty...
But to my great surprise:
Will examine it further at the weekend and let's see how far I go. But until now not bad for 20 EUR...

Looks like someone found it in a field
Cool that it works, any surprises when you opened it up?

If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.
Re: IngoQs attempt at messing up the H4
Haven't opened it yet. Will do so tonight probably and give the case a nice soaking in soap over night then. The disk drive seems to be busted, makes funny noises, but haven't looked into it.
The case is dirty but on first examination completely intact, so that's definetely a win
Until know, the only thing missing is the ESC key

Re: IngoQs attempt at messing up the H4
There's not escape from this one.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: IngoQs attempt at messing up the H4
Managed to sneak a little Atari time in today
My guess is, this ST belonged to a musician because there are markings at the MIDI port, indicating IN and OUT.
When turning around to disassemble I noticed the intact warranty seal... so no big surprises inside ...
... besides loads of dirt
The mainboard is a C103088 Rev. 2A:
Blitter seems to be integrated, so I guess I have to find one for the H4. What else am I missing for the build?
PSU seems to be a Mitsumi SR98:
So could probably recap it, or buy a nice one from Exxos
And lastly the floppy:
Its an Epson SMD400 with long button, currently not working. Lets see, what it is missing....
I put the case parts and keycaps in a nice bubble bath of soap and will let it soak over night.
So much for today

Re: IngoQs attempt at messing up the H4
Erm, that's a short button floppy, en Epsom SMD-480 with a strange "SMD-400" label. It's the last type of floppy fitted to the STFM line.
Believe me, I've got quite good at spotting the different floppies over the last couple of weeks!
