We have been refining the design of the Phoenix Shifter board and we now have a V3 design.

So what is new?
  • We have made the board smaller
  • Taken the right hand mount point away near the video connector as it is not needed with the left mount point and the VSYNC line plugging into the H4/5
  • 3.3V <-> 5V translators now slung underneath inside the shifter DIL footprint
  • Smaller in footprint FPGA but bigger in size (more logic elements and logic array blocks)
  • New Micro JTAG connector to reduce the normal JTAG connector size - https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =10#p44580
  • New Audio Codec chip to allow us to develop sound out through the video connector and provide mixing of the following inputs and outputs:
    - Inputs for the 3x YM sound chip channels
    - Inputs for L and R stereo channels from the S2 Wave board as seen on the H5 design - https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =30#p40405
    - 1x spare input line
    - Output for L and R stereo for connecting whatever line out you wish such as a 3.5mm phono jack where the old modulator hole is in the case
We still have a long way to go in building the boards and the firmware but hopefully this gives you a glimpse into the work going on behind the scenes

Last two Phoenix Shifter V2 prototype components assembled this morning. A few solder bridges to sort out and final assembly to complete this weekend. These will be the last ones of this version as we have the V3 PCBs and components on order.

@Icky i know a man who has some good tips for removing those solder bridges.

I need go try mine again with a TF536 and see if it works. Would make the ultimate H4 with this added as well.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

@PhilC, funny I was just thinking of doing a video of removing the bridges with the method I have found. It’s so easy. I never got on with braid and other methods.

@Icky you should, its a top tip. The only time I now use braid is when I'm too lazy to start up the desoldering gun.

@Icky I would also be very interested in the desoldering method you use!

Will this wonderful device work with Freesync/G-sync monitors to display 50Hz? Since almost all of the regular modern monitors will do 60Hz only. I wonder if it will be that simple...
I'd definitely buy a dedicated monitor if this will work since they're not expensive anymore these days.
