Replacement PSU for STf/STe

Post by tzok »

I've managed to fit a MeanWell RT-65B PSU into the STf case in place of original PSU. It works fine on my "noisy" STf, even better (less noise) than my original STe PSU. This is a 65W switchmode PSU with 5V/5.0A, 12V/2.8A and -12V/0.5A. It barely fits the case. I had to remove its original aluminum base/housing and I was afraid of that as it was thermally coupled with the heat sinks, but it is not getting hot. I've also removed the screw cable terminal in favor of soldering wires directly to PCB. Of course -12V is not used in STf/e at all, so I left that line not connected. I also had to drill new holes to mount PCB onto the original Atari PSU mounting plate, and cut one corner of PCB as it was conflicting with the case screw stand.

I have found even a better one - Mean Well RD-50A. This is only +5V/+12V (without the -12V line) switchmode PSU. It's not on the photo, but I've already added the PE wire:
