Thanks all - I have just cleaned it up and the board seems fine underneath.

Another interesting one as it must of been quite a hot PSU is that as I was recapping this afternoon under some the caps it was black where the bottom of the caps had left a mark.

As you guys have mentioned it has probably just been left on for long periods - this is prior to me getting my hands on it. If I remember back to the days I had my first STFM I used to play it almost 24/7.

I have finally got round to sorting out this PSU.

Its taken 4 months  to finish it off. The PSU has been cleaned up, recapped, refilmed and a new switch fitted.

As you can see in particular the second resistor on the left is pretty burnt

Below is a pic of the finished PSU (Before pic is the first post in this thread)

And finally I have taken a leaf out of Sandord's book https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... 49&#p12833 and labelling up the PSU so if someone opens the STE at least they know what's been done to it.

:) - Since I have had the label printer its become a bit of an addiction. I start seeing places all over the place where I can put a label.

Careful it really is addictive. Found myself labelling tubs of food to go in the freezer the other day.

Lmao, so far it's been my roms and the component draws with my little brother tape printer but one day I shall be able to print those fancy labels.
