How to remove 1040STE power supply?

Post by bartekmalysz »

I just started another restoration project, this time 1040STE. Either I'm forgetting about something (i worked on this machine 2 years ago) or something is stuck, and if so how to get it out?
The screws were taken out, but there seems to be a kind of latch that goes through MB slots (circeled). I did lift both of them but the PSU won't move. Any idea? Thanks

Have you taken the 2 black screws out of the rear near the power switch?
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

This is what annoys me most about working on an STE. You practically have to disassemble the whole thing in order to get the PSU out. If I'm not mistaken, you even have to take off the top shielding.

The ones keeping a thin metal plate at the back and PSU cover altogether (3 black screws), yes I have.

Well, that's the trick, top RF shield is held underneath the PSU. Hence the question.

IIRC you don't have to remove the top shielding but you must separate the shielded motherboard assembly from the bottom case to access 1 or 2 screws at the back

I've often found that the left rear tab seems to stick in the slot in the motherboard so you have to prise that up a bit and then it should come out with a bit of a pull and some moving from side to side.

Once you've removed it a few times it seems to slip out much more easily.

There were different shielding configurations in the STe... not all had the PSU screwed to the rear shielding plate.
