A few more pics from this evening - managed to find some time to do atari stuff
This is the cap replacement kit for the big cap that lives on FM and STe boards (though interestingly, not on MEGAs, it's a different shape on those)
Again, dont be put off by the fact it needs soldering, a methodical approach and a half decent iron, and you'll be fine.
used my 'good' camera for these pics, but still need to work out a good way of mounting it on a tripod so I can photo the 'workspace' properly.
Parts:
lining up the new caps, long leg is positive, short is negatibe. negative is also marked on the cap body.
outside legs done
outside legs snipped off, so inside legs are easier to get to
all legs snipped
top view
connector pin ready to go, mounted in a vie to keep everything straight
better angle
other end
and thats it. note the plasic portion of the jumper pin is underneath - this will space the board away from the ST motherboard to prevent shorts.

Re: [pics] 4,700 AXIAL CAP REPLACEMENT
Haven't had chance to fit it to my main STe yet, as i'm currently using it, but pics of that stage will be posted when I get round to it

Just because a lot of people agree on something, doesn't make it a fact. ~exxos ~
People should find solutions to problems, not find problems with solutions.
