Atari Megafile PSU question

Post by AtariFox »

Hello! It's been a while. I finally managed to get an MFM drive for my megafile.

Though the power unit is missing the actual ST plug.
I was hoping the one in the shop NEW ST PSU CONNECTOR £7 50 In Stock [0163]
Would fit the Megafiles PSU, I mean it looks just like an atari one.

I was also looking at a compatable one, like the Meanwell RD-50A switch mode PSU as a replacement instead ( https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/embedded ... s/6447067/ ). I've seen them used a lot on replacements, especially in a video by Jan beta.

Since i dont have the actual physical connector and need the one exxos sells, will it work?
The PSU i just am not confident enough to mess with. I just want something simple to drop in and replace it with, even another powersupply if someone has a spare.

The PSU cables in the store "are" the same connector as on the Atari PSUs. There would be little point in selling them otherwise. Only thing you need to make sure is that the cable is long enough.

Thank you very much exxos. I wanted to make sure that is all, because i know that sometimes things looks the same, but can be different.
I'll go ahead and order one.

I was having a look, and im not sure if the megafiles use.. mega ste power unit. I mean it looks pretty similar to the one in the megafile 30.

(this link shows mega st power supplies)

Will the connector i ordered work?

Also im not able to find the power supply layouts in a drawing like format sort of thing.

Im looking at other power supplies in the megafile series, and they seem a lot different/more simple.

They all ST type PSU's, normally only the metal mounting bracket is different.

Are the power leads attached to the power supply I can not see well in the picture. If so the ground is going to the wrong spot

@AtariFox - glad you are starting to get this going.

I know this PSU as it used to be mine so let me help you out a bit here.

I have colour coded arrows where either the cables should be connected to each other or to the switch.

RED arrows are the Neutral from the switch to the PSU board.
MAGENTA arrows are the Live from the switch to the PSU board.
YELLOW is the Neutral from the power socket to the switch.
ORANGE is the Live from the power socket to the switch.

Yeah it's the one you sent me! I bought a new power socket to connect to the motherboard, but there's that red wire that's just floating. I can't remember where it goes.

The red wire goes over to the other outputs for the led. Do not hook it the front panel led.
