Looks pretty good already. Did the existing hard drive mounting hardware
match up with the CosmosEx okay?

Thanks.

Yes and no. The mounting holes match but the holes are not standard size or even threaded it seems. I used the original mounting spacers, bushings, and washers but I used small self-tapping screws. It turned out ok.

Another thing was the power switch on the side of CosmosEx. I had to drill a suitable hole on the side of the mounting plate so the switch was accesible and not pressed against the side (which turned it off).

Sounds about right. If I remember correctly, I actually used small nuts and bolts to mount
my Ultrasatan in my STacy.

Thanks for the info. :)

Well, progress is great. Here’s what I’ve done so far:
  • Recapped motherboard, Sub PCB and DC/DC Board.
  • Fixed clips and posts
  • Installed CosmosEx and 3D printed faceplate
  • Cleaned up all plastic parts
  • New keyboard mylar from Best
  • New port covers from Best
  • New Omron tactile switches (Awesome!)
  • Fixed Floppy Drive
Ain’t she a beauty!

Still to do:

I have new badges from Best that I’ll install after I receive my new screen next week. Old one works fine but not as bright as I’d like. I got a good deal.

Then I’ll start work on the other STacy. That’s a longer project.

I just remembered that one of my Mega ST has a TOS 2.06 upgrade on it. So, I figured that I should install it on my STacy. It’s this one: http://dev-docs.atariforge.org/files/TO ... n_Card.pdf

First step is to solder header strips on the STacy motherboard expansion. Then I’ll use connectors instead of solder so it will be plug and play. I was going to install them for STaceX anyway.

The ROM socket is 32-pins, but not 100% pin compatible with 27c010 or STE. But, apparently pins 3-30 (1-28) are 100% pin compatible with Atari 1mbit mask roms. So I figure the TOS 2.06 upgrade is plug and play.

This will settle the question whether or not the STacy needs a special TOS for the LCD screen. I’m pretty sure it will work.

I will do the LCD upgrade at the same time. It will be a busy week and I have a funeral trip next weekend so I’m not sure if I can get it done this week. Will keep you guys posted.

So here’s the pinout for the TOS 2.06 upgrade that would otherwise get soldered on the CPU. I’ll still have to double check it.

This particular TOS upgrade is perfect for the STacy in terms of size and ribbon cables. I put the cables under the PSU and had to cut away the battery compartment for space. Very nice.

Awesome stuff!

So for those of us who do not own a Stacey, what is actually doing 206 decoding ?

So does TOS 104 and 206 work on the Stacey then, i.e., does not need a special version for Stacey?

Thank ya! So it turns out that STacy has a regular TOS. Nothing special about it. Also the TOS 2.06 upgrade was pulled from a Mega ST with stock standard ROMs. The decoding is done by a GAL on the upgrade board. That’s as much as I know.

But, now I can start working on my Magnum ST + TOS 2.06 upgrade for STacy with confidence.
