In lieu of buying a ROM I may borrow the one in my STF remake....
Collector of old Atari things:
800XL + Ultimate 1MB, 2x 1010 cassette, 1050 + Happy mod, 65XE (128k +APE Warp) & XC12, SIO2SD, 2600jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Atari 520ST (1Meg), 1040STF long button floppy, 2x 1040 STFMs + Gotek, 2x 4160STE with 32Mhz booster, ROM switcher, Mega ST1, Mega ST4, not to mention various bare ST boards for testing including a PAK 68/2 :)
Plus the rest..
Amiga stuff, Mac stuff, Sinclair stuff etc...

Any of my ROM's will work, we are using 104/206.

The ATF1508 I will be getting some from mouser to include with the PCB. The code needs to "grow" a bit yet, so I haven't tried fitting it in a 1504... currently the code fits.. but it may not after i've dumped in more changes.. Will try and do the changes soon (laid up with flu again so on a go slow :( )

I kinda like 1.04 or 2.06 and the DiagROM. When you have a issue just remove the jumper.. anyway on the fast rom board. :D

So I have a question.

What sort of devices are people thinking of connecting to the IDE interface?

Are we looking at connecting old brick drives 3.5", laptop 2.5" or just using CF or the SD adaptors?

OK - make that two questions :)

One of the reasons for asking is that the standard 40 pin IDE headers are quite large but if most people are looking at CF, SD or 2.5" drives then the smaller 44pin headers would take up less space on the next board.

I have a mix of IDE full size and laptop, plus IDE to CF. Personally I'd say that I'd prefer the final device to use laptop style connectors rather than full size IDE since the laptop drives and IDE-CF/SD adapters tend to use that format, plus it also carries the power, so you don't need an additional power lead.

And of course, its much easier to fit those devices into an ST!

Yeah it's likely to be something like CF that I dnd up using. I got all of these 3.5 hds just so we had some more test subjects.
