low profile round header pins ?

Post by exxos » Tue Jul 09, 2019 10:03 pm

I use these types of pins currently...

But can't seem to find any "ultra low profile" versions.. basically without the black plastic bit.

I've been trying to find longer round pins which I could just cut off the top half of the pins.. but can't find round onlys, only square pins.

I've been trying to find some PCB pins, they were like small nails, but can only find ones which are 1mm+ dia. I need them about 0.55mm dia to fit turned pin sockets.

My only (bad) idea is to use 0.55mm dia wire and just do it that way.. but it would be a nightmare...

Anyone got any suggestions ?

EDIT:

Found these but feking expensive

Only things I can think of but again, not a great suggestion, pull the pins out of a floppy or ide socket, some have round pins. Or again may be expensive, what about 13 pin din plugs?
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

I would look at making my own from something like this:
https://www.cc-craft.co.uk/straight-pin ... silver-25g
or
https://www.palmermetals.co.uk/shop/ste ... -long.html
or
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Prym-30-X-0-5- ... 1846455901

The main thing would be the hardness, so that they arent bending all over the place.

Edit:
Ooh I actually found some at .55mm

You can save a mm or so with the headers you have by putting big holes in the PCB so the black plastic is flush with the PCB surface. So you win the height of the wide section.

Alternatively you could do the same but pull the pins out of the plastic then you can drop the PCB to the height of the concial section. Just crop off the spare poking through the PCB!

Yeah, I was thinking earlier , if I just remove the black plastic and make the PCB holes larger, then I can just use the same strips.
