Yes. And no. Worthless but cool somehow. At least as an historical artifact. I'm on the lookout for a Spectrum 48k, but that's at least a bit more useful than a ZX81 :)

Edit: But the doorstop anecdotes are hilarious.
A kludge is a workaround or quick-and-dirty solution that is clumsy, inelegant, inefficient, difficult to extend and hard to maintain.

I have a 48K+ but the keyboard membrane needs replaced.

I want a 128K Toaster job.

I've wanted to replace the membrane on a rubber key Spectrum for ages now.
My plan is to use tactile switches held together with a 3D printed jig.

I will get round to it one day.

I want one where the rubber keys are rubbery.

Oh no, I want to keep the keys, just swap out the membrane.
In my head it works beautifully :D

I want the rubber, the membrane. The entire horrible experience. That’s just because I’ve never had one :)

48 Plus keyboard. Lovely feel like pressing dead mouse belly.
Lovely quality of membranes which were made of best quality rice paper. I guess words "Spectrum" and "Quality" should never been used in the same sentence. :D
