Re: exxos blog - random goings on
Thought I would do a post on what is going on with the remake routing at the moment..
It has sort of, gone a little backwards, because a lot of places fail the JLC DRC rules Myself and Icky have contacted them over a couple of issues and I have not heard back from them in over a week..
The first problem is the clearance between holes and tracks. Now, JLC quote in their design rules that there must be 0.25mm between both.. Which is understandable, BUT to me this is only valid for the top and bottom layers.
JLC actually rejected my alt-ram board because it had 0.15mm clearance between tracks and holes, but these were on different layers, so it really should not have mattered (or have needed to be 0.25mm) , but they rejected it and said it needs to be 0.25mm
So as likely this is going to be a problem, I am slowly reorganising a lot of tracks, but this basically means I have to rip up 100's of tracks just to re-route several. This in itself is going to take a lot of time up. Then I have to actually finish routing the remaining 80+ tracks.. Though likely this will just have to be autorouted in the end to save time. I'm also struggling with my fingers hurting not able to put much time into this currently either.
The second problem is that JLC's maximum board area for multilayer PCBs is only 300x 300mm and 2 layer 450mm x 400mm. The motherboard is 440x252mm. Again I do not believe their specifications for this, as the Alpha was 440mm x 175mm.. Which is higher than their 300x300 spec for multilayer boards. But we currently don't know if they are going to reject it at this point. I already uploaded the design into their calculator and it accepted it, but it does not mean the goon in the office will allow the order to be manufactured or not.

Well, it is a bit like the "travelling salesman" problem. You're lucky it doesn't take a million years!
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.
